Côn Đảo là một quần đảo ở ngoài khơi bờ biển Nam Bộ (Việt Nam) và cũng là huyện trực thuộc tỉnh Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu. Côn Đảo hay Côn Sơn cũng hay dùng cho tên của hòn đảo lớn nhất trong quần đảo này. Lịch sử Việt Nam trước thế kỷ 20 thường gọi đảo Côn Sơn là đảo Côn Lôn hoặc Côn Nôn. Tên gọi cũ trong các văn bản tiếng Anh và tiếng Pháp là Poulo Condor. Phạm vi vườn quốc gia này bao gồm cả một phần diện tích đảo và khu vực biển lân cận. Được thành lập theo Quyết định số 135/TTg ngày 31 tháng 3 năm 1993 của Thủ tướng chính phủ Cộng hòa Xã hội Chủ nghĩa Việt Nam.VQG Côn Đảo hiện có khoảng 31 ha rừng ngập mặn và nhiều loài động, thực vật quý hiếm.Vườn Quốc gia (VQG) Côn Đảo có diện tích gần 6.000ha trên cạn và 14.000ha vùng nước. Mối liên hệ của rạn san hô, thảm cỏ biển và rừng ngập mặn đã tạo nên một môi trường thuận lợi cho sinh sản, ươm giống và bảo tồn các loài sinh vật biển. Vùng nước nông ven đảo cũng là nơi phân bố nhiều loài động vật quý như rùa biển, cá heo, bò biển (dugong)… Sự đa dạng sinh học của vùng biển Côn Đảo có ý nghĩa quốc gia về bảo tồn thiên nhiên biển ở Việt Nam.Hệ động thực vật đặc trưng của vườn quốc gia Côn Đảo là các loại sinh vật biển, trong đó đặc sắc nhất là hệ san hô và đặc biệt là loài rùa biển.
